Day 13 : Waking up in to the perfect view

July 19th / day13th
Well, today I got up extra early to put away my tent and shower I woke up to the sound of an elk in the distance then  realized how beautiful the view was
The perfect view.

Once we had set up the tent we got a chance to meet Lucy who was a traditional cultural preservation officer. Lucy showed us around the Okanagan reservation we got to see their caribou trail, along with the alfalfa fields that they use to feed the wild horse population in the reservation.

We then were taken to see where they hold their annual suicide run. The suicide run is when riders take their horses down a steep hill and they ride into the river. She then took us to a museum it was cool. We got to see very many cool artifacts. One of the things that stuck out to me from what we read at the Okanagan tribal cultural museum was the Chief Joseph Hatchery Program. The program centered around meeting trust obligations to the tribes for ceremony, health and other cultural purposes. They aimed at having more salmon and steelhead being produced at hatchery facilities which help bring in considerable income to tribes.  According to the museum the act has been successfully in place since 2010.

We then were taken to another museum where we got to see even more artifacts but this time it was from the Colville tribe. The cool things about that museum were that it had more artifacts than the last. We then got a chance to go to the tribe's government building where we met Roderick, Kevin Donald, who is an archaeologist. He told us about what he does for the tribe and about how open the tribe is when looking for employees. I'll be honest this part of the trip was really not my thing. It was interesting learning about all the cool things that the different staff members do to help preserve the wisdom of their tribal elders. The best part of the day was when we got to go to our new camp which is right next to the river!!!

Our new campsite!
The night was really fun we spent it coming up with cool handshakes. I have to say the funniest part of the day by far was when I and Rudy were playing around, and he fell off a log. That made my night.
