Day 9: Spokane Tribe

July 15th / day 9

Well, today we spent the whole day in camp. I woke up about a half an hour earlier to get ready and then I helped clean dishes. After that they made a huge breakfast, we had pancakes, bacon and hash browns
Sadly, after breakfast they made me wash the dishes once again. After that, some members of the Spokane tribe visited us and shared some of their traditional drum songs with us. We met Warren Seyler and chief/elder.  We all got a chance to drum along to the songs I was fortunate enough to get to drum along to the happy song which was nice because as we were drumming everyone else began to dance around us in a circle and they looked like they were having a great time.

After lunch Warren took us all to a local fire tower, it was so high, and everyone was really scared to climb it but, in the end, we ended up going up I really enjoyed watching Priscilla struggle to climb down because she was so scared.  After the tour he also took us to a swimming hole it was nice and warm, so a swim was perfect. The only bad part of swimming was that we had to stay in our wet drawers. When we arrived at camp we got to eat sloppy joes. Right after dinner I caught up with my mentee and gave her the motivation to continue with her own blog. sadly, moments after she began typing we were called off to go meet up with Warren.

Warren wanted to show us a quick video that would give us a bit more background knowledge about the Spokane tribe. The video was interesting but also very sad it talked about how they Spokane tribes' main source of food was taken when grand coulee dam was built it was truly sad to know that a tribe that once depended solely on the river had to be forced into a big game tribe just to survive.
